The Biosecurity Research Institute on the Kansas State University Campus is getting some national attention, with USA Today publishing an article on line about regulatory issues–as part of a series. K-State’s Vice President of Communications and Marketing Jeff Morris tells KMAN the focus was on some past performance improvement plans and primarily documentation issues.
Morris admits with BRI and NBAF soon to be near-by–the facilities in Manhattan will likely continue to get close attention at the national level. Moris indicates all the issues he was questioned about have been resolved–and he says it can be something as simple as saying you’re going to contact the President–but then having to specify whether it’s via email, fax, or phone.
Morris adds university officials welcome the scrutiny–and expect more with the NBAF facility soon to be a part of the area. The K-State official says about 90 percent of issues have been with paperwork–and he stresses they’ve never had an incident where there’s been a release or exposure at the BRI from any of their select agents.
