July sales tax receipts in Manhattan were down some when compared to July of last year. $895,315 was collected this July compared to approximately $905,241 in July of 2014. The amount is still more than what the city budgeted for, which was $830,000 and is a 3.6 percent increase over the total of taxes collected for the year, compared to mid-2014.
Manhattan Finance Director Bernie Hayen says local retail sales continue to match pace or exceed last year’s numbers, especially within the City’s redevelopment district. Hayen mentions the City’s one-cent sales tax continues to be over 3% higher than last year at this time while the TIF/TDD (Tax Increment Financing and Transportation Development District) is close to 7% greater than this same period last year.And Hayen adds all retail groupings are reasonably close or higher compared to last year.
