The Wamego City Commission revisited a replat issue at Tuesday’s meeting, involving the Schneider Subdivision, after tabling the issue at the last meeting. The Commissioner’s wanted to study the property even though the Planning Commission approved the replat by a unanimous vote. After City Manager Merl Page reviewed the issue, Commissioner Vic Enns stated he would like to send it back to the Planning Commission for clarification on access issues. Enns made a motion, which died from lack of a second. Commissioner Tom Beem made a motion to accept the recommendation of the Planning Commission, which passed by a vote of 4 to 1, with Enns opposing.
The City Commission will be moving forward with new trademark and logo designs. Page reviewed the presentation from the Chamber of Commerce for a new logo for the City. The City embraced the concept and wants to move forward with the trademark and materials needed to make the change. Page presented an agreement with Abilene firm, Allegro for all the logo concepts, decals and overall design for a cost totaling $325. Approval was given to move forward by a vote of 5 to 0.
In other business,
the Commission approved a resolution to abate inoperable vehicles at 715 Chestnut by a vote of 5 to 0.
Approved the motion to accommodate the approved documents for bond financing of the interim notes that financed the Northridge Addition in West Wamego by a vote of 5 to 0.
Passed on an opportunity to enter into a contract with the Kansas Municipal Energy Agency to purchase power based on the quantity available. Page recommended the pass saying there may be other opportunities that would be more economical.
The Commission approved Central Elementary’s request for the ‘Run Back to School’ event for August 15th from 7 to 10 a.m. The request included moving the event from Poplar to Elm. Commissioner Bill Ditto included a caveat that permission would be granted if the PTO got permission from the business owners along Elm Street, otherwise the event would go back to Poplar.
Page wanted to remind the public of the Budget Public Hearing on August 13th at 6 p.m. in the Commission Chamber of City Hall.
Page announced the July sales tax numbers are up 1 point 6 percent for the City and up 2 point 8 percent for the County for the same 7 month period a year ago
