USD-320Wamego’s USD 320 Board of Education got an overview of how children are moved throughout the district. during a Monday meeting, Director of Operations Larry Hannan gave the new board members an overview of transporting students. He said the number of registered riders is on the increase, and he feels the numbers will continue to grow. He went over how the bus route is put together and how drivers are trained. In addition to the permanent drivers, he oversees a number of subs, which he uses on a daily basis. With school starting soon, Hannan wants to get the word out that he still needs 2 additional substitute drivers to meet the needs of District.

In other business, Hannan showed the Board the condition of the district’s mowing equipment. He said this year’s rain has increased the number of mowings, and the equipment needs to be replaced. He said the oldest mower is a 1979 New Holland Riding Mower with over 3,600 hours, and has spent over $3,600 in repair parts since the beginning of this fiscal year. He presented cost estimates from two local dealerships. A motion was made to purchase a new Kubota diesel 4-wheel drive with a snow broom. Approval was given by a vote of 6 to 0. The 1979 machine will be used for snow removal.
