USD 383 LogoWednesday night’s USD 383 School Board meeting opened with special recognition of two employees at College Hill Preschool.

Sarah Mitchell and Rebekah Rowley, both aides at College Hill earned their Child Development Associates Credentials and were commended by Superintendent Bob Shannon for their work.

The district’s Executive Director of Teaching and Learning discussed “Kansas Schools Raising the Bar on Student Success”, an overview of student state testing scores and what criteria changes the State Department has made recently. Executive Director Carol Adams presented ten years of standardized testing results and compared them with recent scores to board members, mentioning USD 383 students scored above their peers throughout Kansas at many points.

Donations to the district continue to flow in, as reported by Board President Marcia Rozell. Rozell says among recent gifts was an anonymous donation to Marlatt Elementary School for over $6,000 for the purchase of iPad carts and iPad Minis for their students to learn on.

Director of Business, Lew Faust presented the district’s overtime annual report later in the meeting. Faust said overtime hours remained comparable with last year’s with the exception of the district’s transportation department. The district is still looking for bus drivers to lighten the workload on their current staff, who clocked in a considerable amount of overtime so far this semester.
