The Geary County Sheriff’s Office and Junction City EMS responded to a call earlier this week for a reported gunshot wound at the 3800 block of K-157. However upon arrival to the scene, deputies discovered inconsistencies with the original report.
After further investigation, the Sheriff’s office Investigations Division revealed that the victim, Mark Ayers, 25, sustained major injuries to his lower extremities as a result of a blast made by a home-made explosive device.
Ayers was transported by Life Star to the Salina Regional Health Center. The officers arrested Scott Wayne Aldrich,  Jr., 28, for aggravated battery and criminal use of explosives.
The Geary County Sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate the incident, which occurred Monday but was reported Thursday.
