The search continues for a replacement superintendent in USD 383

USD 383 LogoAt Wednesday night’s regular school board meeting, Manhattan/Ogden board members refined their action plan to replace Superintendent Bob Shannon this summer as he retires. Search facilitators based out of Topeka laid out the progress and open options for board members to decide upon, such as timelines for progress and smaller details. After a lengthy discussion and some fine tuning, the board decided on finalizing their application deadline date at January 4th in order to give applicants and facilitators a break for the holidays.

The school board also heard a progress report from those involved in the district’s School Schedule Reorganization Committee. Assistant Superintendent Eric Reid, a member of the committee told the board that their progress would not be nearly to the extent it has been without the help of people outside the committee. Reid says the general public has been making suggestions and spearheading ideas at their meetings.

Also discussed was a consent by the board of a contract with the city of Manhattan over a special alcohol fund, as well as a monthly report for the district’s Head Start and Early Head Start programs. Board members also looked over an annual communications report, and heard about the 2015 KASB legislative report. Before the board wrapped up their public meeting and went into an executive session, they heard one final report from district officials over course proposals and changes for the 2016-2017 school year, and approved these proposals after a vote.

The next public meeting for the school board is scheduled on December 2 at 6:30 at the Robinson Education Center, and new items to discuss will include a bullying prevention annual report as well as a financial audit report.
