    K-State Women pull away from Bearkats

    With a 32-point fourth quarter, Kansas State turned a nine-point lead into a 28-point win on Saturday night at Bramlage Coliseum with a 78-50 decision over Sam Houston State. K-State has now won six straight games, matching the longest win streak in the Jeff Mittie era.

    The teams were tied at eight midway through the first quarter, as Wesemann drained a pair of 3-pointers.

    The Wildcats used an 8-2 run to end the quarter with a 16-10 lead. Erica Young tallied three points during the run, all from the foul line.

    K-State opened up a 22-12 lead with 9:10 to play in the second quarter, as Shaelyn Martin and Bri Craig each knocked down a three-pointer.

    The Wildcats endured an almost four-minute scoring drought, but held Sam Houston State to just four points during the scoreless stretch to hold a 22-16 advantage with 7:27 to play.

    Lewis scored all six of her first half points late in the second quarter, increasing K-State’s lead to 30-19 with 47 seconds remaining.

    A three-pointer by the Bearkats and a free throw from Kaylee Page gave the Wildcats a nine-point halftime lead, 31-22.

    A Lewis layup and Megan Deines 3-pointer increased K-State’s lead to 36-22 in the and forced an early Sam Houston State timeout with 8:16 to play.

    The Bearkats rallied back with a 13-2 run over a 4-minute stretch to pull to within three, 38-35, with 3:52 remaining.

    The Wildcats answered back with an 8-2 run to end the third quarter with a 46-37 lead. Lewis scored four points during the run.

    K-State dashed out to an 8-2 run to begin the fourth quarter to build a 64-39 lead with 7:34 to play. Lewis registered a pair of layups, while Wesemann and Antoinette Taylor each converted uncontested fast break layups.

    The onslaught continued as the Wildcats drained five 3-pointers in the final quarter to card a 78-50 final margin. Wesemann recorded 11 points and Lewis 10 in the final frame.

    K-State finished the night shooting 46.0 percent (29-of-63) from the field, including 10-of-31 (.323) from beyond the arc. This was the fourth time this season K-State has made 10 or more 3-pointers in a game.

    The Wildcats held the edge on the boards for the sixth straight game with a 42-38 edge.

    K-State tied its season-high with 24 assists and turned the ball over just eight times. In the last two games, K-State has 48 assists. Over the last 11 seasons, K-State is 45-0 when handing out 20 or more assists in a game.

    K-State concludes its non-conference regular season schedule on Monday, against Western Illinois. Game time is 7 p.m.
