    RCPD Report – 1/21/16

    At approximately 2:00 PM on January 20, 2016 after receiving an emergent call for service members of the Riley County Police Department and emergency crew with Riley County EMS responded to the 3300 block of Valleydale Drive in Northeastern Manhattan for a report of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Once on scene officers found Lucas Kurtz, 29, of Manhattan deceased inside of his home. He sustained and succommbed to an injury to his head. Police officials do not suspect foul play to be a factor in this death.


     

    Officers with the Riley County Police Department issued a citation to Benjamin Ware, 24, of Fort Riley, Kansas for the offense of speed too fast for conditions after a collision at the intersection of Skyway Drive and East Riley Ave. Police found that Ware, driving a 2007 Dodge Ram, was traveling south on Skyway Drive and lost control at he turned west at East Riley Ave. At this time a 2012 Toyota Rav 4, driven by Percy Tello, 46, of Manhattan was struck by the Dodge Ram. Snow is considered a contributing factor to this collision. Ware was transported to Via Christi Hospital for complaint of back pain. This collision occured on January 20, 2016 at approximately 8:25 PM.
