Riley County Police ended a bicycle theft spree after making an arrest on Thursday morning around 11:30 a.m. Prior to the arrest the RCPD alerted the community to a rash of bicycle thefts in Manhattan via Twitter and Facebook. With assistance from the community officers were able to identify a suspect and make an arrest.

Several bike thefts have occurred in central MHK and we’d like to remind you to take bikes indoors or invest in a heavy-duty lock. #BikeTips

RCPD arrested Roy Patterson III, 47, of Topeka, on the offense of theft of property or services (X5). He was also arrested on the offenses of trafficking contraband into a correctional facility and possession of opiates, opium, or narcotic drugs. He was given a total bond of $18,000.

Police seized several stolen bikes and are currently seeking information on their original owners. If you have been the victim of a bike theft in the past several weeks and have not yet reported it to police, contact RCPD at 785-537-2112.
