The Kansas City Royals were unable to salvage a split Thursday night in New York as the Yankees won 7-3 taking three out of four from the defending world champs.

Chase Headley and Didi Gregorius hit two-run homers, and Starlin Castro added a solo shot to boost the Yankees.

Ian Kennedy suffered the loss allowing all seven runs on five hits. The Royals offense tallied nine hits with Eric Hosmer, Alex Gordon and Christian Colon pitching in with multi hit efforts.

The Royals extend the slump as they head back to Kansas City losers of 12 of their last 16 games. The Royals have not won back to back games since April 21-22.

KC is now 16-18 overall, they begin the weekend 6.5 games back of the White Sox for first place in the AL Central.

The Royals and Braves begin a series Friday night at Kauffman Stadium. First pitch at 7:15 p.m.
