A roll of police tape (police line) lies on the ground outside a home being foreclosed on in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2009.

A Manhattan man was killed Friday morning in a single vehicle accident near the intersection of College and Kimball Avenue.

Gary Harris, 63, of Manhattan, was the driver of the vehicle, according to the Riley County Police Department. He was pronounced deceased after being transported to Via Christi Hospital by Riley County EMS.

Officers with the RCPD and Kansas State University Police Department in a collaborative response between area emergency personnel arrived at the scene of a single vehicle collision near the intersection in Manhattan at approximately 7:20 a.m.

Personnel on scene, with the assistance of the Manhattan Fire Department, extricated two occupants from a 2009 Chevy Cobalt which sustained significant damage that also included fire to the back end. This vehicle came to rest in a creek bed with approximately 18 inches of water.

A 14-year-old Manhattan resident was transported to Via Christi Hospital prior to being transported by air to Topeka for medical treatment of a head injury. At the time of this release his condition was unknown.

Police continue to investigate this collision and at the time of this release, no further information was available.

The Riley County Police Department and the emergency services community including the Manhattan Fire Department, the Kansas State University Police Department, and Riley County EMS extend their condolences to the family and friends of those affected by this collision.
