Johnson, Sneed shine in homecoming rout of Saint Louis

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Bruce Weber has always tried to schedule “homecoming” games for players he recruited from out of state. It’s safe to say D.J. Johnson and Xavier Sneed appreciate the gesture.

Playing in their native St. Louis, the pair combined for 36 points as Kansas State routed the Saint Louis Billikins, 84-51, Saturday night.

Johnson nearly logged a double-double in the first half alone, coming just short with 13 points and nine rebounds.

After SLU took a 3-0 lead to open the game, the Wildcats went on a 9-0 run, and never looked back from there. Johnson scored eight of his team’s first 13 points, while Sneed added three three-pointers in the first half.

    K-State (7-1) led 41-22 at halftime.

Dean Wade quietly enjoyed one of his better outings this season as well, recording 13 points, 5 boards and 4 assists against a Billikins team severely lacking in frontcourt depth.

The lead grew as large as 35 points in the second half, which was highlighted by a Sneed four-point play to make it a 30-point advantage. Sneed made four triples on the night.

SLU (2-5) was led by Jermaine Bishop’s 11 points. The Billikins have lost four straight games.

Next up for K-State is a matchup with Prairie View A&M next Tuesday at Bramlage Coliseum.
