Carmike Cinemas Managing Director Martin Platz welcomed the many dignitaries present for the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the Town Center 13 at Manhattan’s Town Center Wednesday night.

Platz tells KMAN the theater complex offers more than just the new floor to ceiling, wall to wall IMAX screen, mentioning the Ovation site which has full service seating and dining with runners/busers bringing food orders with just the touch of a button. Platz adds his hopes are to bring more people into the Manhattan area…

Manhattan and state officials were present for the grand opening, treated to a sampling of food items and the Deepwater Horizon movie on the IMAX screen.

Manhattan Mayor Usha Reddi was obviously excited about the arrival of the new entertainment venue, saying we are going in the right direction. Reddi adds it’s also encouraging Carmike is showing its belief in Manhattan as it continues to grow…

Mayor Pro Tem Linda Morse described it as a wonderful venue for the community. Morse did express curiosity about the old theater on Seth Child but is pleased with the new downtown facility…

Downtown Manhattan Executive Director Gina Scroggs was also pleased–reminiscing on the days when movies could be viewed in the downtown area. And Scroggs is hoping to draw even more people to Manhattan…

Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce President Lyle Butler talked about partnerships–involving Carmike, the Town Center Mall, Downtown Manhattan, and the city of Manhattan  Manhattan City Commissioner Karen McCulloh was another of the hundreds of dignitaries present for the festivities, saying it will likely be a shot in the arm for the Mall.

Many state legislators from the Manhattan area were also present for the grand opening and ribbon cutting.
