Spirit of the holidays lights up Manhattan

By KMAN Staff on December 4, 2016 Local News, Manhattan

Friday evening, Manhattan community members lit up the streets of Manhattan in a decade long tradition, the Mayor’s Christmas Spirit of the Holidays Lighted Parade.

Mayor Reddi said attendance at last weekend’s Festival of Lights was around six thousand, and was hopeful Friday’s parade would be just as popular, in part because it benefits the Flint Hills Breadbasket.

Commissioner Wynn Butler emphasised how much fun the event is for all in attendance, including for the Mayors of Christmas Past. Former Manhattan Mayors are grandfathered into the judges panel. They give out 5 different awards that award Little Apple dollars of various amounts. Little Apple dollars can be used to shop locally.

KMAN spoke with 2 award winners, Best School Float and Best Foot Float. Best School Float went to Girl Scout Troop 1101, and Best Foot Float to Highland Community College. Listen to the audio clips below from the award winners.
