FRISCO, Tex. — The 2017 college football season draws nearer as the Big 12 holds its annual Media Day meetings this week at the Dallas Cowboys’ practice facility. On Monday, league commissioner Bob Bowlsby took the stage, along with half of the Big 12’s head coaches.
Kansas State, and head coach Bill Snyder, will have their turn Tuesday.
Bowlsby’s press conference didn’t have the intensity it did a year ago, when conference expansion and Baylor’s sexual assault scandal were the elephants in the room.
Instead, he admitted it’s been nice to not have the Big 12’s stability in the news as of late, and shared his excitement for the return of the Big 12 championship game. The league has not had one since dropping to 10 teams in 2011.
New Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley was the main attraction Monday, and new Texas boss Tom Herman will undoubtedly attract the most cameras Tuesday. He will be joined by Bill Snyder, as well as coaches from Oklahoma State, West Virginia and Baylor.
K-State, a program that rarely draws headlines off the field, has had a noisy offseason by its standards. Between Snyder’s battle with throat cancer, a standoff with former Wildcat receiver Corey Sutton, and last week’s announcement that offensive lineman Scott Frantz is the Big 12’s first openly gay player, some unusual questions can be expected.
KMAN’s John Kurtz and Tyler Dreiling will broadcast Tuesday’s edition of “The Game” from the meetings in Frisco.
