RCPD, Lawrence PD release offender profile page in serial rapist case

By KMAN Staff on August 4, 2017 K-State Activity, Local News, Manhattan, Riley County, Top Story

A full profile of the man suspected of raping 14 women in Manhattan and Lawrence has been made available to the public through kansascollegerapist.com.

The website was created through a joint partnership between the Riley County and Lawrence police departments.

On July 27, RCPD Director Brad Schoen and Interim Chief Anthony Brixius of the Lawrence Police Department held a press conference asking the public for help in identifying a suspect in the rapes that spanned from Oct. 2000 through Dec. 2008. Authorities believe a 2015 rape case in Manhattan may be connected.

The suspect targeted female students who attended Kansas State University and the University of Kansas.

According to the profile page, all of the victims who observed the perpetrator’s race identified him as a white male. His estimated age was 20 to 30-years-old at the time of the earlier assaults. His current estimated age is at least 35-years-old. The victims’ reports are consistent with the age range for individuals who commit this type of crime; just over half of stranger rapists are aged 18 to 28, and more than three-quarters are between 16 and 33.

Victims’ descriptions of the perpetrator’s height ranged from 5’9” to 6’0.” The description of the perpetrator’s build varied, but several victims mentioned a prominent stomach. In the most recent incident, he was described as having a medium to thick build, slight stomach and noticeable muscle tone in the thigh area. Victims were unable to provide any description of hair or facial features due to the intruder being masked.

In most cases, victims said the man threatened them with a gun.

The offender profile also includes behavioral traits along with a timeline and locations of the assaults.

Any tips can be made to Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers at 785-539-7777. In addition to the $1,000 reward there, Schoen said an anonymous local donor has provided $10,000 to the RCPD on top of that.
