    Updated: Sunday, 1:31 p.m.

A Junction City man is in the Riley County Jail for the suspected theft of a police car.

Anthony Kenneth Johnson, 32, was taken into custody by the Riley County Police Department at 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

According to the RCPD, officers were conducting a traffic stop near the intersection of 5th and Yuma in Manhattan Friday at approximately 6:40 p.m. when multiple people in the stopped car fled. Johnson was one of those individuals and allegedly took the police cruiser.

Police say they recovered the vehicle a short time later.

Johnson’s charges also included criminal possession of a weapon, criminal trespass and damage to property. Another charge included defacing I.D. marks on a firearm.

Johnson remains confined in the Riley County Jail on a $32,000 bond.

KMAN will have more information as it becomes available.
