The Junction City Police Department says the investigation into the identity of a deceased woman found between two buildings in Junction City on May 28 continues.
Wednesday, JCPD Public Information Officer Capt. Trish Giordano said the identity is still unknown, but added one has been ruled out.
“We have received several calls inquiring whether this individual could be Ashley Meiss, the missing woman from Ogden,” Giordano said. “Ashley has been ruled out as our Jane Doe by a fingerprint comparison.”
According to a press release from the JCPD on May 28, officers were advised of the body at 2:25 p.m. that afternoon in the area of 140 E. 2nd St. in Junction City. The body was identified as a white female approximately 5-foot-9 in height. Tuesday the body was transported to the Shawnee County Coroners Office in Topeka. She was wearing shorts that were dark in color. She was wearing “Pali Hawaii” flip flops.
JCPD Public Information Officer Capt. Trish Giordano told KMAN in May no criminal investigation has been opened and there is no person in custody related to the case. Giordano said the body showed no evidence of injury. No cause or time of death has been determined.
Wednesday, the JCPD said that due to the condition of the body it was hard to provide specific characteristics to the public at that time.
“We requested assistance from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, who were able to obtain usable fingerprints and a DNA profile,” Giordano said. “At this time we still do not have an identification on our Jane Doe. We reached out to Forensic Anthropologist, Dr. Alexandra Klales, with the Washburn University Forensic Anthropology Laboratory, who was able to provide a preliminary profile.
“Jane Doe is believed to be a white female with brown hair. She is between 40-60 years of age and is approximately 5’ 10”. She was wearing a blue/green tank top and blue/green shorts, both size large along with size 10 flip flops at the time she was discovered.”
The JCPD is asking for the public’s help to identify the woman.
