A car chase temporarliy closed I-70 for 10 minutes Thursday afternoon.

According to Capt. Brian Hornaday of the Geary County Sheriff’s Office, deputies initially responded to the 1700 Block of West Ash Street in Junction City after a victim reported a vehicle was stolen from that area. The vehicle was located by a Geary County Sheriff’s Deputy within a few minutes. A traffic stop was attempted and the driver fled.

Eventually, the driver lead deputies onto Interstate 70 at Mile Marker 295 (US-77) where the pursuit ended near mile marker 307, east of Junction City. Sheriff’s Deputies used “Stop Sticks” to deflate the tires of the stolen vehicle. A Geary County Sheriff’s Office K-9 was also used to assist in the apprehension.

The dirver was identified as 28-year-old Terrell Kimbro of Junction City.

Hornaday said the incident should remind the public to always ensure their vehicles are locked and not left running when unattended.
