As Farmageddon looms, K-State keeps bowl hopes alive against Tech

Manhattan, KAN. – Senior Day was another success for Kansas State on Saturday, as the Wildcats defeated the Texas Tech Red Raiders, 21-6.

K-State’s offense welcomed back quarterback Skylar Thompson, after missing most of the TCU game and all of the Kansas game with a concussion. Although the Wildcat offense only managed 21 points, Thompson spurred the Cats to successful drives by throwing for 213 yards and one touchdown early in the game to Malik Knowles.

On the ground for K-State, Alex Barnes anchored the attack again with yet another game running for more than 100 yards. Through the air, K-State was led by Knowles and Isaiah Zuber, who hauled in 56 and 48 yards respectively.

After the first quarter though, you wouldn’t have been able to tell that it was K-State who was going to win the game, as Texas Tech had built a six-point advantage after a pair of Clayton Hatfield field goals. From then on, the Wildcats would roll.

Blake Lynch got K-State on the board, followed by the end of the half touchdown with Thompson to Knowles.

The third score for the Wildcats came on a safety, after Tech was backed up towards their own endzone, Brock Monty got his hand on the ball and deflected the Red Raider punt through the back of the endzone. After that, K-State would add a few more field goals to their total, one coming after a Dalton Risner touchdown was called back.

Risner’s score was originally called good on the field by officials after Skylar Thompson threw the backwards lateral to the offensive lineman, but upon review it was a forward pass with Risner not being an eligible receiver.

K-State’s defense was dominant all game long, holding Tech to 181 yards of offense and right at 150 through the air. That coming one week after Jett Duffy threw for 444 yards against Texas in the Red Raiders tight loss to the Longhorns.

Up Next: K-State finishes their regular season on the road in Ames, Iowa. Iowa State will have the opportunity to lock up a spot in the Big 12 Championship if they beat Texas Saturday night. K-State has won nine straight against Iowa State, including the walk-off win last season against the Cylcones. With a win next week, K-State becomes bowl eligible and evens the all time Farmageddon series at 49-49-4.
