The Flint Hills Discovery Center will perform some upgrades to its theater in January and have also unveiled a new series of educational programs.
The FHDC Horizon Ranch Immersive Theater will be getting four new, state-of-the-art projectors to improve the viewing quality of their films. The projectors will be purchased using a $417,950 donation to the FHDC Foundation by Marty Vanier. The Manhattan City Commission accepted the donation and approved the projector purchases in December.
As a result, the theater will be closed from Jan. 14 through the 25th. Admission will be reduced during that period. Adults can get in for $7 while youth tickets will cost $3.
The FHDC also introduced a new lesson program on the Native American Osage Nation.
The lesson is part of the Flint Hills Map and Education Program, which was first created to install informative maps at all schools within the Flint Hills as well as to offer online classroom curriculum on the Flint Hills for “educators and enthusiasts alike.” They’ve been able to provide large-scale educational map exhibits to 183 area schools and colleges.
The new program will focus on the history and culture of the Osage Nation in addition to “their present, and their future.”
