Fort Riley is holding a pair of town hall meetings to provide housing information to army personnel and their dependents both Tuesday and Wednesday.
It’s part of an Army-wide effort to review conditions in Army family housing and ensure the post is meeting safety standards after poor housing conditions were highlighted in a hearing by the Senate Armed Services Committee earlier this month. People across multiple branches have complained of mold, pest problems and other health concerns in military housing.
The meetings will take place Tuesday and Wednesday at Riley’s Conference Center at 5:30 p.m. It will also be livestreamed on the Fort Riley Facebook page.
Residents of Fort Riley housing will hear from Maj. Gen. John Kolasheski, Commanding General, Garrison Commander Col. Stephen Shrader and representatives of the post’s housing contractor, Corvias. They’ll talk about tenants rights, how to report concerns and receive action and how to resolve complaints.
Army Secretary Dr. Mark Esper says he’s troubled by the reports of conditions in some family housing units.
“It is unacceptable for our families who sacrifice so much to have to endure these hardships in their own homes,” Esper says. “Our most sacred obligation as Army leaders is to take care of our people — our soldiers and our family members.”
