Gas service being switched back on for Northview residents

By KMAN Staff on June 1, 2019 Local News, Manhattan

    Update:

According to a Kansas Gas release, the company began working with emergency management officials to determine where it is safe to switch service back on. Technicians started assessing locations and began restoration operations Friday evening where it is determined safe to do so. They continued work through Saturday.

Kansas Gas anticipated the process would begin in the South Manhattan Avenue Area. Officials say you do not have to call in to get your service restored and that technicians will also go door to door to perform safety checks and relight natural gas appliances. They do note that a resident age 18 or older must be present.

If no one is home at the time, Kansas Gas employees will leave a door hanger with a phone number to call for reconnection.

    Original:

Gas services in some areas under evacuation advisory will be cut off, according to a Facebook post by the utility.

Kansas Gas says they will be temporarily shutting off meters to areas including the Dix Addition, South Manhattan Avenue, the Berry Streets and Countryside Estates Mobile Home Park as a precaution. They say service will be restored when weather conditions stabilize.

Those who are not home will have a door hanger left at their residence to notify them of the situation. Kansas Gas also advises residents not to try to turn of natural gas at the meter themselves and that only emergency responders and their personnel should operate the meter valve.

They say if you smell natural gas or have a natural gas emergency, leave the area immediately. Call 911 and Kansas Gas at 1-888-482-4950.
