By KMAN Staff on November 7, 2019 Local News, Manhattan

Manhattan Area Technical College has been named one of the top 150 two-year public colleges in the country by The Aspen Institute.

The honor is part of The Aspen Institute College Excellence Program that chose the top 15 percent out of about 1,000 two-year public colleges that applied.

Selection of institutions is based on completion rates, employment rates, learning, earnings and equity.

Of the 150 institutions invited to compete for the top spot, The Aspen Institute will name 10 finalists in May of 2020, visit each finalist’s campus, collect more data and then decide on a winner in spring of 2021.

The winner of the program will receive the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence, which is worth $1 million.

Other two-year colleges in Kansas named in the top 15 percent by The Aspen Institute are Cloud County Community College, Coffeyville Community College, Cowley County Community College, Flint Hills Technical College, Hutchinson Community College, Manhattan Area Technical College, North Central Kansas Technical College, Northwest Kansas Technical College and Salina Area Technical College.

More information about the competition and a list of the other top-150 institutions, visit www.highered.aspeninstitute.org/aspen-prize.
