Country music and hog roast

Country-music and barbecue lovers will get a chance to see local singer-songwriters perform and eat some local grub at the 5th annual Hearts and BBQ fundraiser at Cox Brothers BBQ this Thursday.

The event will feature a hog roast, barbecue buffet, music and raffle drawing with proceeds going to the Homecare and Hospice Employee Education Fund.

Cox Brothers Barbeque owner Bud Cox says the day will begin at 11 a.m. with a buffet.

There will also be a raffle drawing with items such as a grill and tickets to the Flint Hills Beer Fest up for grabs.

How Hearts and BBQ got started

The Hearts and BBQ fundraiser can trace its origins back to a family who was touched by the care of those who work at Homecare and Hospice.

Christina Nolte, the Homecare and Hospice Executive Director, explains how the event got started.

Nolte says Rhoda’s husband, Ken Culbertson, and her kids began a fund to directly benefit Homecare and Hospice employees.
