Riley County saw five new positive coronavirus cases Monday, bringing the overall total for the pandemic to 500.
Health officials are monitoring 125 active cases, including 2 COVID positive patients at Ascension Via Christi Hospital, but no patients under investigation. The percent positive rate for new cases is hovering at 3.5 percent, down from just over 5 percent the previous week. So far 370 people have recovered and five deaths have been attributed to the virus.
The county Monday was awaiting results of 97 pending tests and have totaled 5,409 negative tests since data started being collected in March.
Riley County Health and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment are supporting a free COVID-19 testing day in Northview Thursday.
Unlike tests through the Riley County swabbing station, those looking to be tested do not need to show symptoms or have been a close contact of a positive case. The tests will be conducted at Vineyard Community Church at 2400 casement Road in Manhattan. Tests will be conducted in three time blocks — 8 to 10 a.m., noon to 2 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m.
Hy-Vee will also be providing to-go meals, though portions are limited. Those hoping to be tested can drive, bike or walk-up, and are asked to wear a mask.
