Manhattan Public Library offering limited browsing, increased online resources

The Manhattan Public Library continues to expand their online resources.

Maddy Ogle, Manhattan Library Development and Public Relations Coordinator, tells KMAN that they have started a new program called Brain Fuse. Ogle says there are several different sections of the program and she explains one section called HelpNow.

“It’s live tutoring sessions that you can go in, the kids can submit their questions and someone will actually connect with them. And the tutors are all either people pursuing their PHD’s- either have their PHD’s, or graduate students. So it’s basically just a free online tutoring session and they also have  a writing center where you can send your papers to,” says Ogle.

Ogle says there is also a JobNow portion to help students prepare for job interviews and write a resumé. She mentions one of the main goals of the new program Brain Fuse.

“I think right now we’re just seeing that there is homework happening, of course, and so we’re just wanting to see if this can be a way to help students continue learning while also helping parents out with maybe not feeling so stressed by having to do those certain problems and what-not,” she says.

Ogle says that the library is now offering express browsing. She says that browsing of the children’s book area requires an appointment, but the adult area does not. She shares the current status of the library.

“All of our meeting rooms are still closed. We’re not taking book donations. We’re just wanting to get people the opportunity to have this extra element of browsing,” she said.

Ogle also says the process of returning books is a little different.

“When the library is open, the book drive in our parking lot is open to drop materials off. However, when the library is closed we ask that you use the book drop attached to the building,” she said.

The library will also be hosting a Halloween themed trivia night later this month. Details can be found on the library’s Facebook page.
