The Riley County Health Department 94 new positive cases of COVID-19 were identified Friday and 87 additional people have been added to the recovered list since its previous report.
Active cases totaled 500 as of Friday, with Ascension Via Christi caring for six positive patients and two patients under investigation (PUIs). Four of these patients are in the Intensive Care Unit. A total of 3,754 residents have recovered from the virus since the pandemic began.
Pottawatomie County added 25 new positive cases and saw 26 more recoveries. Active cases totaled 75 in the county Friday, with seven current hospitalizations. The number of Pottawatomie County recoveries for the pandemic is at 724.
Riley County health officials swabbed 558 people at its most recent free testing Thursday at CiCo Park. Results from those test will be shared in the health department’s next update Monday. Testing will continue this month on Dec. 17, Dec. 21 and Dec. 28. The county also noted earlier in the week that the percent positive rate had risen to 25 percent as of last week.
Statewide, Kansas has now logged over 2,000 deaths due to COVID-19 complications. In honor of the lives lost and families left behind, Gov. Laura Kelly has directed flags be lowered to half-staff until sundown on Monday.
