New cases and recoveries

Riley County has confirmed 34 new positive COVID-19 cases and 52 recoveries since May 5.

This brings the total number of active cases to 23.

17 of the cases involved in the new figures are older cases transferred to Riley County based on residency.

According to the Riley County Health Department, none of the new cases involved people who have been vaccinated.

The percent positive rate for the week of May 2 was 1.6 percent, or 17 positive cases out of 1,032 total tests.

Ascension Via Christi is not caring for any COVID-19 positive patients at this time.

Youth vaccine clinic

The Riley County Health Department is planning to host a youth vaccine clinic in Manhattan.

The clinic will take place at Pottorf Hall in CiCo Park on May 20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Free food and activities will be available to those who get vaccinated, including a food truck, snow-cone truck, Manhatchet throwing station, a DJ, selfie station, and giveaways.

Anyone between 12 and 17 years old must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Officials have set a goal of vaccinating 1,000 people between the ages of 12 and 18.

Local health officers previously anticipated holding a youth clinic, but were awaiting the go ahead from the CDC after the FDA approved the Pfizer vaccine for people age 12 to 15.
