Fort Riley’s commanding general Thursday announced the recipient of the 1st Infantry Division’s most prestigious award for a private citizen.
As part of the unit’s Victory Week social, Major General D.A. Sims awarded the 2021 Distinguished Trooper Award to Mary Sue Moore.
As the recipient of the honor, Moore received an engraved Distinguished Trooper Coin, lapel pin, certificate and a red jacket with the 1st Infantry logo.
Moore has served as a member of the Lady Troopers organization over the past 30 years. While with the organization, she served three times as its president and worked canteen events during operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield.
She currently works in various roles with the Armed Forces Community Foundation, Fort Riley Association of the United States Army Chapter and Junction City Military Affairs Council.
In addition, Moore was a founding member of the Central Kansas Military Community Foundation, assisted with annual Retiree Appreciation Days for 16 years, ghost wrote four Ghosts of Fort Riley books and volunteers during Fort Riley Ghost Tours as a story teller.
