Riley County Police Department’s current director will be retiring next year.
In a statement on Monday, Director Dennis Butler will retire after three years serving in the RCPD. Butler was sworn in as the director back in December 2018. He will remain at RCPD as the Director through January 2022, the effective date of his retirement will be February 1, 2022.
Law Board Member and City Commissioner Linda Morse thanked Butler for his service and wished him well on his retirement.
Before coming to Riley County, Butler had served as the police chief in Ottawa, and police director in Virginia before that. He has been serving in law enforcement for the past 41 years.
The RCPD Law Board will meet in the coming weeks to determine details surrounding the hiring process for the next Director.
