Riley County has confirmed one new COVID-related death and 148 new positive cases this week.
A 48 year-old Riley County woman died Christmas Eve after testing positive for COVID on December 10. She is the 66th reported COVID death in the county.

Along with the new cases, 153 additional recoveries have been confirmed since the December 22 report. There are currently 221 active cases in Riley County.

Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan was caring for 13 COVID-positive patients Wednesday. There are seven patients on the medical floor, four of whom are unvaccinated. Six patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), including five on ventilators. Five of the patients in the ICU were said to be unvaccinated.

No cases of the Omicron variant have been identified in Riley County.

With new quarantine and isolation guidelines announced by the CDC, the health department continues to follow the 10 day period as KDHE has not yet changed its guidance.

The health department is also reporting an increase in demand for COVID testing, noting it’s been receiving several hundred calls per week for testing.

KDHE testing is still taking place at the Manhattan Town Center in the parking lot across from Dillards, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.
