Wednesday’s Men’s Basketball Recaps

Izaiah Brockington stole an inbounds pass underneath the Iowa State basket and scored with 22.6 seconds left to give the Cyclones the lead en route to an 84-81 comeback victory over West Virginia. Iowa State trailed by 12 points with more than 14 minutes left, but Brockington put the team on his back, scoring 19 of his career-high 35 points in the final 9:40 to bring the Cyclones back.

Andrew Jones scored 21 points and No. 20 Texas rallied from 10 points down in the second half and beat TCU 75-66. Marcus Carr scored 19 and Timmy Allen had 17 for Texas. The Longhorns reached 20 wins in the regular season for the first time in six years. The win ensured Texas will finish no worse than .500 in the Big 12 under first-year coach Chris Beard. Texas trailed 48-38 with 13 minutes to play before hot shooting from Jones and lock-down defense sparked a run to grab the lead.

Wednesday’s Women’s Recaps

NaLyssa Smith had 19 points and 15 rebounds to help No. 5 Baylor beat Oklahoma State 65-58 in women’s basketball. Sarah Andrews scored 17 points and Queen Egbo added 13 points for the Bears. Baylor won its seventh straight and remained tied with Iowa State for the Big 12 lead. Lexy Keys scored 13 points and Lauren Fields added 12 for Oklahoma State. Fields was held to 4-for-23 shooting.

Ashley Joens scored 22 points and had 11 rebounds and led No. 9 Iowa State to an 85-59 win over Kansas. The Cyclones (23-4, 12-3 Big 12) sit atop the conference along with Baylor after winning for the seventh time in eight games. Joens continues to make her case for Big 12 Player of the Year leading all scorers in the game. Lexi Donarski scored 21, Emily Ryan had 10 points and 11 assists, and Beatriz Jordao added 10.
