Following the recent winter storm in Kansas, the American Red Cross says blood drive cancellations as a result of the weather cost the organization at least a day’s worth of blood.
They say that only compounds the existing blood shortage in the nation, which has led the Red Cross to declare its first-ever national blood crisis in January. Kansas-Oklahoma region Red Cross representatives say COVID-related blood drive cancellations in the region had already resulted in 2,100 planned donations not taking place.
Manhattan has numerous blood drives planned over the next week. One is scheduled Friday at Manhattan’s Holiday Inn At The Campus from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Drives are also slated to be open Tuesday in Pottorf Hall as well as next Thursday and Friday the 11th in Manhattan City Hall.
