MANHATTAN, Kansas (Kansas State Athletics) – Following the fourth NCAA Tournament bid and the sixth overall postseason appearance under the direction of K-State women’s basketball head coach Jeff Mittie, K-State Athletics and Mittie have agreed to a two-year contract extension through the 2025-26 season, Director of Athletics Gene Taylor announced on Friday (July 22). The extension was unanimously approved by the K-State Athletics, Inc., Board of Directors.
“Under Coach Mittie’s leadership, we have achieved sustained success with six postseason berths while seeing the excitement level and support for K-State women’s basketball continue to grow,” Taylor said. “He has done a tremendous job as head coach while being a great mentor for our student-athletes, and we look forward to continued success with him leading our women’s basketball program.”
Under Mittie’s guidance, Kansas State has reached the postseason six times and amassed a record of 145-110 (.569) which includes three 20-win seasons. With five victories, Mittie would become the third coach in program history to reach the 150-win mark at the helm of the Wildcat women’s basketball program.
“I appreciate the continued confidence of our administration to lead this program,” said Mittie about his continued time in Manhattan. “We are fortunate to have such an outstanding staff and group of players to work with every day. Shanna and I are appreciative of both the K-State community and the city of Manhattan for their continued enthusiasm for our program.”
Mittie is entering his ninth season with Kansas State in 2022-23. He owns the second-most NCAA Tournament appearances and the second-most NCAA Tournament victories in K-State women’s basketball history. While guiding the Wildcats, Mittie has mentored 20 All-Big 12 selections, five Big 12 All-Defensive Team honorees, five Big 12 All-Freshman Team recipients and one Associated Press All-American.
Overall, Mittie will begin his 31st overall season in 2022-23 and owns a career mark of 599-345 (.635) and has 21 postseason appearances. His 599 career wins at NCAA programs ranks 16th amongst active NCAA Division I head coaches. With his first win in the 2022-23 season, Mittie will become the 16th active coach in NCAA Division I with 600 or more career wins.
K-State has also excelled in the classroom under Mittie, as the Wildcats have received 44 Academic All-Big 12 citations, five Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year recipients, eight CoSIDA Academic All-District honorees and four CoSIDA Academic All-Americans.
For the 2022-23 season, Kansas State returns seven letter winners including all five starters from last season. The Wildcats will be led by All-American center Ayoka Lee and the sophomore trio of Brylee Glenn, Jaelyn Glenn and Serena Sundell.
The seven returning letter winners were responsible for 87 percent of K-State’s scoring, 77 percent of the team’s assists and 72 percent of the team’s rebounding in the 2021-22 season. The Wildcats will also welcome in senior Gabby Gregory, redshirt sophomore Heavenly Greer, sophomore Gisela Sanchez and freshmen Mimi Gatewood, Ja’Mia Harris, Eliza Maupin and Mikayla Parks.
