Ames is a 6-foot, four-star recruit from Chicago, Illinois. He picked K-State over Arizona State, Illinois, LSU, Marquette, Maryland, Michigan State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Virginia and Wake Forest. According to Rivals, Ames is the 46th best player in the nation for the 2023 class. Making him KSU’s highest rated recruit since Wally Judge in 2009.

Per stats posted on MaxPreps, Ames averaged 19 points and five assists per game as a junior for Kenwood Academy.
