Manhattan High’s opener in the Hays City Shootout Thursday evening will be an early season showdown between top 10 teams in 6A. The Kansas Basketball Coaches Association pre-season poll issued Tuesday placed the Indians at number 10 to open the season, with Olathe West number three. Also in the field is seventh ranked Lawrence-Free State and the number two team in 2A in Thomas More Prep.

The Manhattan High girls also draw Olathe West in the opener, and the Owls are the sixth-ranked team in 6A to begin the year, per coaches. Defending champion Washburn Rural is also in the field and takes the pre-season number one spot in the poll.

The KBCA rankings also included Wamego’s boys and girls in the top ten for 4A: the boys at number eight, the girls at number two. The Rock Creek girls were placed at number eight.

Newsradio KMAN coverage from Hays begins Thursday evening following The Game, with the girls tip time slated for 6:30 and the boys to follow.
