    The following summary of calls for service/reports filed by the Riley County Police Department is a portion of those received by police. Some names, addresses, and case details are withheld to follow local, state, and federal law and in an attempt to protect community members from being victimized further. Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

    MANHATTAN, KAN. – 

    Officers responded to the report of a fight in progress in the 700 block of N. Manhattan Ave. in Aggieville, Manhattan on December 3, 2022, around 12:33 a.m. When officers arrived, they found a 22-year-old man in a fight with three other men in front of the Varsity Food Truck after he had been kicked out of Porter’s bar. Jeffrey Downey Jr., 22, of Manhattan was arrested in connection for disorderly conduct. He was issued a total bond of $500 and is no longer confined at the time of this report.

    Officers filed a report for criminal damage to property in the 1400 block of University Dr. in Manhattan on December 3, 2022, around 10:45 a.m. A 19-year-old man was listed as the victim when he reported his car was “egged” and the hood was scratched overnight. The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $1,000. Anyone with information can contact RCPD or the Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers. Using the Crime Stoppers service can allow you to remain anonymous and could qualify you for a cash reward of up to $1,000.

    Officers filed a report for rape in Manhattan on December 3, 2022, around 12:00 p.m. A 16-year-old female was listed as the victim and a 30-year-old man known to her was listed as the suspect. Due to the nature of this crime, no further information will be released.

    Officers filed a report for theft in the 3600 block of Claflin Rd. in Manhattan on December 4, 2022, around 4:00 p.m. Manhattan Cross Country Club was listed as the victim when it was reported their 2013 white enclosed 5 x 10 trailer containing race equipment was stolen from their parking lot. The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $13,900.  Anyone with information can contact RCPD or the Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers. Using the Crime Stoppers service can allow you to remain anonymous and could qualify you for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
