MANHATTAN, Kan. (Kansas State Athletics) – For a second-consecutive season, Kansas State running back Deuce Vaughn has been named a finalist for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, SPORTyler announced Tuesday.

Vaughn is one of four finalists for the award, joining TCU quarterback Max Duggan, UTSA quarterback Frank Harris and Texas running back Bijan Robinson.

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award goes to the top offensive player who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity. In addition, the nominee must either be born in Texas, graduated from a Texas High School, and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four-year Division I Texas college.

A First Team All-American by numerous outlets, Vaughn enters bowl season ranked 10th nationally and second in the Big 12 in scrimmage yards (rushing plus receiving) at 136.9 yards per game, while he is 11th with 1,425 rushing yards this season. He is just the third player in school history with multiple 1,000-yard rushing seasons, joining Darren Sproles (2002, 2003, 2004) and Daniel Thomas (2009, 2010).

Vaughn, a product of Round Rock, Texas and graduate from Cedar Ridge High School, ranks fourth in school history in single-season rushing yardage, while his 3,471 career rushing yards rank second in school history to Sproles. He has tallied eight 100-yard rushing games this season to rank fourth in school history, while he is second in a career as he has tallied a 100-yard game in 20 of his 36 career games played.

Vaughn was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2022 Dr. Pepper Big 12 Championship as he helped lead the Wildcats to a 31-28 overtime victory over No. 3 TCU as K-State captured its third Big 12 title.

The Wildcats finished at No. 9 in the final College Football Playoff Top 25 and will take on No. 5 Alabama in the 89th annual Allstate Sugar Bowl. The game will be played on at 11 a.m., on Saturday, December 31 inside Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, and will be shown on ESPN.
