The Riley County Law Board will formally adopt the Riley County Police Department’s 2024 budget during Tuesday’s meeting.
Last month, the board approved for publication RCPD’s 26.9 million dollar budget request, a nearly 2 million dollar increase from last year’s approved budget.
RCPD initially requested, back in April, a 27.2 million dollar budget which included the implementation of 50% of their remaining salary survey and an 8% cost of living adjustment (COLA). RCPD said both increases were needed to remain competitive in the job market.
The department returned last month with a 6.5% COLA, receiving approval in a 5-2 vote. Board Members Kaleb James and Wynn Butler dissented, desiring a COLA no higher than 4%.
The board now has the ability to alter the budget before final adoption, as long as it does not exceed the amount approved for publication.
The meeting begins today at noon in City Hall and can be viewed live at www.cityofmhk.com/tv.
