Manhattan City Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution establishing their intent to exceed the estimated 47.61 revenue neutral rate in 2024 and set a public hearing related to said topic during their Tuesday meeting.
During their June 13th work session, commissioners requested the full 9.5% valuation growth for the city to not be captured and expressed interest in lowering it to 6%. Opting for the smaller rate would bring the mill levy to 50.47, a 1.68 decrease from the current 52.15.
The city will hold the public hearing regarding the RNR on September 5, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall.
The mill levy listed in the resolution is subject to change before its final adoption, but only in the form of a decrease.
Also on Tuesday, the board passed a resolution allowing the city manager to regulate the use of the city’s official logos. The resolution allows the city manager to approve use of these logos by a third party with the inclusion of a contract. Fees may be charged for commercial use.
The resolution also establishes that the statue of Johnny Kaw, its image and likeness are in the public domain and therefore available for use without permission from the city.
