An expected plea hearing for a man suspected in a 2020 Aggieville shooting has been delayed after negotiations between the prosecution and defense stalled Tuesday.
Travell Hairston, 31, was expected to plead guilty to a slew of charges that were headlined by attempted first degree murder. However, miscommunication over the length of the sentence led to the plea hearing being pushed back to a later date.
According to the defense team, Hairston had agreed to serve 150 months in prison for his crimes but there was concern that the state was pursuing an aggravated charge which would add an additional 35 months to the sentence.
Deputy Riley County Attorney Trinity Muth disputed the claim, saying he was unsure of where the 185 month claim had come from.
Judge John Bosch pushed the plea back to a 2:30 p.m. status hearing on Aug. 30, noting that if an agreement cannot be reached by that date, a three-day bench trial would be held.
