    EMS updates Riley County Commission on projects; Lagoon temp note bids submitted

    Finance and Budget Officer Brittany Philips presented Monday to the Riley County Commission the bids for the temporary note approved to pay for sewer projects.

    The funds are for the University Park Sewer District and the Lake Park Sewer District. They are intended to pay a portion of preliminary costs of engineering, design, and construction of a non-discharging lagoon.

    Commissioners made a motion that would refer the bids back to staff for recommendation, as recommended by Philips.

    Health Department Director Julie Gibbs presented regarding funding from the CDC. This money is to enhance public health infrastructure. Based on Riley County’s social vulnerability index and population, the grant was awarded in the amount of $159,000 over 5 years. This is about $31,000 per year.

    Gibbs explained the funding already has an intended goal.

    Gibbs detailed out exactly how these funds would be spend for retention purposes.

    Commissioner John Ford motioned in favor of formally applying for the grant, it passed unanimously.

    EMS/Ambulance Director David Adams updated the Riley County Commission on Monday about the under-construction North Riley County ambulance building.

    External siding has been mostly installed per Adams. He also gave an update as to the state of the interior.

    Some of the work has slowed due to to weather.

    Tasks still to be done at the site include installing new shingles, termite treatment, and spray foam insulant installation.

    EMS/Ambulance Director David Adams updated about the work being done on a new Public Safety Headquarters.

    Adams said the design is complete and has been sent to engineering. There are a few remaining questions and issues to solve. Adams gave an example.

    The team decided in favor of traditional heating.

    Adams related that they have met with the interior designer for the buildings, this building will be her 51st EMS/Ambulance building, and she gave the team a lot of ideas. Adams related one example.

    When the talks are done, and the inside and outside are fully designed, Adams will present all the data to the Riley County Commission.
