MANHATTAN, Kan. (K-State Athletics) – Coming off a game in which Kansas State rushed for 343 yards and produced 587 total yards of offense in a 41-3 victory over TCU, senior left guard Cooper Beebe has been named the Outland Trophy National Player of the Week, the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) announced Tuesday.
It is the first time this year Beebe has earned a weekly national award as, for the first time, the FWAA is selecting an Outland Trophy National Player of the Week as part of the National College Football Awards Association weekly national honors from 12 awards. Following the UCF game earlier this season, running back DJ Giddens was named the Doak Walker Award National Running Back of the Week.
Beebe pushed his streak without allowing a sack to 36 games and 1,041 pass blocking plays, which dates back to the Iowa State contest in 2020 (according to Pro Football Focus). He made his 42nd career start against the Horned Frogs, including his 39th-straight start, the most by an active player on this year’s team. His 42 career starts are three shy of entering the top five among K-State offensive linemen since 1990.
The 587 yards of total offense against TCU was the sixth-most in school history but the highest amount ever for the Wildcats in a conference game. K-State had 406 yards at halftime, its most in a single half since at least 1999. It was the third time this year K-State had over 500 yards of offense as they had 588 yards in the season opener against SEMO – the fifth most in school history – and 536 yards against UCF. The two conference games with 500 or more yards of offense are the most by a K-State team since 2014, while the three overall games are the most since 2003.
K-State enters this week’s game against Houston ranked third nationally in rushing yards per game (232.7) and 13th in both yards per game (474.7) and points per game (36.9), while all three marks rank in the top six in school history in those respective categories. The Wildcats are also averaging 6.49 yards per play, which is currently the top mark in program history.
Kansas State hosts Big 12 newcomer Houston on Saturday in the Wildcats’ Homecoming game inside Bill Snyder Family Stadium. Kickoff against the Cougars is slated for 11 a.m., and the game will be shown on ESPN2.
