Both Manhattan High basketball teams took home trophies from the 41st annual Hays City Shootout, claiming wins both Friday and Saturday to finish fourth in their respective tournaments.

The boys used wins over Sunrise Christian (71-50) and Newton (63-45) to close the weekend after opening the tournament with a loss on Friday. It’s the second year in a row Benji George’s team has finished fourth and closed the three days 2-1.

The girls rallied from Thursday’s loss to win a pair of blowouts over Hugoton Friday (58-27) and Thomas More Prep Saturday (43-18). In both games they never trailed in improving to 2-1.

Both teams will visit Hays again Tuesday, this time to face Hays High before playing their home openers on Friday against Dodge City. The Hays girls fell in the tournament championship to Olathe West Saturday, while the boys dropped the third place game to Millwood (OK).
