A winter storm continues to blast the region and forecasters now say higher amounts are likely, especially along and north of Interstate 70.
A Winter Storm Warning continues areawide through midday Tuesday, with about 6 to 10 inches of accumulation now possible. Strong winds will also be notable Tuesday morning and could cause reduced visibility. The heaviest snowfall is expected in the late evening and overnight hours and with 1 to 2 inches of snow per hour at times, according to the National Weather Service.

The transition from rain to snow happened much quicker than forecasters anticipated. Riley County Emergency Management Director Russel Stukey says the morning rain delayed any pre-treatment on county roads.
