Riley County is preparing for the groundbreaking on their new EMS station, which is being held next Monday.
EMS Director David Adams says a final rezoning request for the new station site was recently submitted to the city and is anticipated to be approved quickly. Once approved, the last document that the county needs completed is the storm shelter compliance law, which has to be verified by an independent third party.

Fencing and signage will be put up this week to inform the public about nearby closures.
Adams added that the current EMS station will be repurposed once the new facility is completed.
The groundbreaking event will be at 2 p.m. on April 22.

Riley County Commissioners also adopted an animal control resolution at Monday’s commission meeting.
Commissioners at recent meetings made changes to the old document, which were added and accepted in the most recent document.

Negotiations also continue with Prairie Paws for its contracted shelter services at the T. Russel Reitz Animal Shelter. The goal is to provide services for residents in rural parts of the county.

Prairie Paws initially asked for $90,000 from Riley County, but county commissioners are set on a figure closer to $60,000 or less.
The animal control resolution will soon be implemented, and conversations with Prairie Paws will continue.
