At Monday’s Parks and Rec Advisory Board meeting, board members were presented with the city’s proposal for the Move! MHK Master Plan that includes a potential $37 million indoor aquatics center.
Public comment as well as board member opinions were mixed at Monday’s meeting, with several on both sides of the issues, noting cost, location and size as some of the specific concerns.
Resident Kristen Hoffman supported the plan for a new aquatic center saying the accessibility is critical for the city as well as surrounding communities.

Resident Mel Borst opposes the plan.

Gail Urban called on the board to adopt the plan and send it to the city commission for final approval.

The size of the project was the biggest concern to Kathy Jebeltoski.

Board members Ed Klimek and Dave Schafer have expressed support for the project, with Klimek going as far as to say the city should embrace the project while board members Joe Knopp and Nicholas Lander have expressed concerns over it.
The overall plan is still up for debate at the city commission, but the board’s reaction to the plan was rather mixed at Monday’s meeting.
