10 Wildcats have earned medals heading into the final day of competition

WACO, Texas (K-State Athletics) – The K-State track and field teams competed in day two of the Big 12 Championship on Friday (May 10) into Saturday morning, featuring seven podium performances after a condensed schedule due to weather conditions at Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium.

Seven Wildcats gave top-eight performances, including three women in the shot put who competed well past midnight, after encountering another day of multiple weather delays spanning five hours.

Senior Urte Bacianskaite finished competition in the women’s heptathlon with a bronze medal performance of 5,714 points. She finished 70 points behind the 2nd place finisher, Oklahoma State’s Bailey Golden, and 240 points behind the winner from Texas, Kristine Blazevica.

Bacianskaite won her second event of seven with the javelin throw, reaching a distance of 47.17m/154-9, a season best. She claimed 7th place in the long jump with two consecutive jumps at 5.77m/18-11.25 and finished the day in the 800 meters with a time of 2:23.59 in 11th place.

Junior Daisy Monie led the K-State women in the shot put with a 4th place new personal best of 16.41m/53-10.25, jumping up to no. 7 in the K-State all-time top-10 records. Seniors Jasmine Greer (7th; 15.88m/52-1.25) and Jaycee Schroeder (8th; 15.70m/51-6.25) also claimed spots on the podium with junior Grace Thompson (13th; 15.04m/49-4.25) also rounding out the group.

While the 3,000 meter steeplechase was the only track event to compete for the night, two Wildcats earned conference medals. Junior Tommy Hazen recorded a new personal best in the men’s event by nine seconds at 8:51.57, now no. 5 in the K-State top-10, with a podium finish in 8th place. Senior Hannah Stewart ran a bronze medal time of 10:10.43 while sophomore Cecilia Fisher finished 13th in 10:43.71.

Junior Jessi Brummett reached the podium with an 8th place throw of 45.11m/148-0, her season best. Other competitors in the javelin include senior Briana Lowe (11th; 42.48m/139-4) and sophomore Saydee Tanking (15th; 40.54m/133-0).

Due to the delay, the women’s pole vault and men’s high jump have been rescheduled for 11 a.m. and 12 p.m., respectively, on Saturday (May 11) while the preliminary races originally scheduled for Friday afternoon will now be timed finals with start times to be determined. The men’s pole vault is also affected with a new start time of 4 p.m.
